Jackson County Sports Hall of Fame
One of the goals of the Jackson County Sports Hall of Fame has been to give back to student-athletes with a scholarship. Beginning in the Spring of 2017 that goal will become a reality. We will be awarding a female student-athlete and a male student-athlete with a scholarship to help in furthering their education. Scholarship applications will be accepted from student-athletes from every high school within the Jackson County School System and the Scottsboro City School System.
We are able to initiate this scholarship program for the Spring of 2017 through a generous donation by the Larry Nevels family. Mr. Nevels was a student-athlete at Scottsboro High School who was able to attend college through an athletic scholarship. Following a teaching and coaching career, Nevels owned and operated a successful business in Jackson County.
Mr. Nevels passed away this year (2016) and his children, Allison Nevels Autry, Jim Nevels and Lance Nevels requested that memorials in his behalf be made to the Jackson County Sports Hall of Fame to assist deserving student-athletes from Jackson County with furthering their education. We are extremely honored and grateful to them for helping to make this possible.
If you, your family or business would like to help ensure that this scholarship programs continues in the future, donations can be made to The Jackson County Sports Hall of Fame, 815 West Willow Street, Scottsboro Alabama 35768. For additional information, call Greg Bell at 256-599-2433. We will be recognizing all scholarship contributors in our Hall of Fame program each year and during our Hall of Fame
